Abstract: The paper deals with the humus system characteristics of the soils from intermountain valley of city of Sofia, distinguished by the reddish color and different development of aggregates stability. Four shallow soils and five deep soils are included in the study. The organic matter state is controlled by the processes provoked by the biological activities. Indirect this state is in relation with the local soil forming features. In the study were included soils formed on different parent rock materials occurred in the area with comparison between the humus systems characteristic: amount, distribution, composition and type.
